प्रधानमंत्री उज्ज्वला योजना के अंतर्गत केंद्र सरकार द्वारा बीपीएल परिवारों को फ्री रसोई गैस की सुविधा दी गयी है अब जो महिलाये घरो में खाना पकाने के लिए लड़की, कोयला या गोबर केक का इस्तेमाल करती थी उनको इसकी जगह गैस चूल्हे का अवसर मिलेगा तथा प्राकृतिक ईंधन के इस्तेमाल से जो धुआँ होता है उससे भी निजात मिलेगी। मोदी सरकार द्वारा उठाया गया महिला सश्त्रीकरण की दिशा में एक एहम कदम है। इस योजना के तहत गरीब परिवारों को 1600 रुपए की धन राशि वाले गैस सिलेंडर एवं उनके साथ मिलने वाली सामग्री जैसे चूल्हा , रेगुलेटर सुरक्षा उपकरण आदि भी सरकार द्वारा प्रधानमंत्री उज्ज्वला कनेक्शन में मुफ्त दिए जायेगे। इतना ही नहीं सरकार ने लॉकडाउन की समय में गरीब परिवारों को इस योजना के तहत 3 गैस सिलेंडर तीन माह के लिए मुफ्त दिए है।

PMUY was started by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to provide free LPG gas cylinders to poor and BPL family women. During the lockdown period under the Poor Welfare Package, 3 free LPG cylinders are distributed for BPL families by the central government. Free Cooking Gas Cylinders will be distributed to 9 crore PM Ujjwala Yojana Beneficiaries.
